Platform and engine are early decisions

Octo's documentation lists Windows, macOS and Linux support, including Apple-silicon Macs. Its profile settings describe the Chromium-based Octium engine. Mac Profiles currently targets Apple-silicon Macs and uses WebKit as its primary engine. A team that needs one product across several operating systems has a different requirement from a team specifically evaluating WebKit on macOS.

Compare actual fingerprint scope

Octo documents controls for hardware and browser characteristics, including graphics-related settings. Mac Profiles does not currently claim an equivalent complete fingerprint engine. Its separate website data stores and controlled language, time-zone and proxy startup are narrower capabilities. An Apple-like interface or a Mac device label should not be presented as feature parity with documented engine controls.

Check the state you must move

Octo's settings documentation describes options for cloud profile data. Mac Profiles shares team configuration and coordinates active ownership through leases; its local encrypted cookie checkpoints are not automatic synchronization of a complete session between Macs. List the exact state your handoff needs, then verify it in a pilot rather than assuming the word profile includes the same data in both products.

Evaluate a normal working day

Try creation, the required proxy, reopening, team access and a realistic handoff. Include a connection failure and a revoked member, not only a successful page load. Use the same authorized test accounts and record which application and engine were tested. Do not infer website compatibility from a screenshot or a generic fingerprint score.

Choose against requirements

Mac Profiles is a private beta for teams that want a native Mac workflow around WebKit and can evaluate its stated limits. If your requirements depend on capabilities documented only by another product, verify those capabilities there before committing. Current pricing, plan limits and support commitments should be checked directly with the vendor; this page does not rank them.
